Vice-Chairman & Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) of Iberostar Group and passionate about tourism and the oceans, Gloria Fluxà has extensive experience in the tourism industry, with expertise in innovative business and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) leadership. As a fourth-generation member of the family business, Gloria continues Iberostar’s legacy as an organisation with purpose, embedding its values and commitment towards clients, the environment, its people and communities, something that Iberostar has been recognized for over the past 65 years.
Erika Harms is the Global Sustainability Office Director at Iberostar where she leads the sustainability team in scientific-driven actions for a sustainable ocean economy and responsible tourism model. She builds bridges between the private sector, public sector and governments in order to bring transformative solutions that address critical challenges and contribute to sustainable development through regenerative tourism. This work is seen through Iberostar’s Wave of Change, the first innovation hub born from the tourism industry that provides strategies for the sector to integrate science-based actions into business models. Through 5 focus areas of action, Circular Economy, Nature-based Solutions, Blue Foods, Climate Action and Destination Stewardship, Wave of Change aims to drive change for a more sustainable future.
Gabriel Martorell is a Telecommunications Engineer with more than 20 years of professional experience in various leadership positions in Europe, the Middle East and America. In 2016 he joined the Iberostar team as Director of General Services in the Dominican Republic and currently holds the position of Director of Sustainability Governance, spearheading initiatives aimed at transitioning towards a responsible tourism business model.
Nicholas Komisarjevsky oversees the curation area, and he is responsible for researching and analyzing resource requests, strategizing talent management, and creating tools and resources for target audiences. Additionally, he focuses on fostering external partnerships, and synthesizing industry insights to enhance decision-making and ensure effective resource production and dissemination.
Alicia Alonso manages brand strategy for Wave of Change, and leads the integration of sustainability into marketing & communications at Iberostar to engage relevant stakeholders, from clients to the tourism sector and the public sector. She previously worked at the United Nations in New York. Alicia received a master’s degree in Communications at New York University as a Fulbright Scholar and holds a BA in Journalism from Ramon Llull University.
Alejandra Aponte is a Biologist, holds a Master’s degree in Animal Ecology. She spent half of her professional life working in academia, with different research projects in the field of population ecology. Later she turned her bearing towards the private sector ecosystem and evolved as an education manager within the tourism industry. Her passion for change management brought her to her role as a Sustainability Governance Manager. Currently, Alejandra works together with Iberostar corporate departments to work the way towards the objectives of our sustainability strategy.
